Habibah Food Truck

A custom food truck for Habibah, built with MidMac Auto, the Amman specialty-vehicle builder, on a stock truck chassis. The work shown here is the steel framework that carries the kitchen: sized to the client's layout and equipment loads, and fixed to the chassis through its existing mounting interfaces.

Render of the food truck's steel framework: a box frame of square tube with braced end walls, a slatted floor, and openings in the side walls.

Scope
Structural design to fabrication drawings

Framing around a fixed chassis

The chassis came with its mounting interfaces already set, so the frame had to land on them, not the other way round. Inside those limits, the kitchen layout and the weight of its equipment drove the member sizes and the framing geometry.

A stock chassis is not built to carry a full kitchen box, so the chassis itself was strengthened to take the weight of the frame and everything mounted on it.

From loads to a drawing set

  1. Structural design. Member sizes and frame geometry.
  2. CAD assembly. The full frame modelled on the chassis, connections and mounting points included.
  3. Drawings. A fabrication set covering the members, weld details and handover package.

The frame drawing carries a 32-item cut list, mostly 40 x 40 x 2.6 mm box section, on two 6 m channels. In carbon steel, the whole frame comes to about 1,118 kg.

The frame structure drawing: an isometric view of the steel frame with numbered balloons, and a cut list of 32 items giving each section size and length.

On the road

The truck now runs as Habibah Sweets' mobile branch, serving hot kunafa, cake, and a coffee bar at weddings, graduations, and corporate events. See the truck on Habibah's site.

The finished Habibah food truck at dusk: a navy box body on a white-cab truck, with lit serving windows, a fold-down awning, and a stainless steel serving deck with stairs.
